Hi I'm Sgarrela I have moved over to the new HTC Forum. You can find me there as "BarryS" - I changed my username because no one can spell "Sgarrela". I still stop back here from time to time to help out, but if you have a North American device that is covered by the Forum, you should sign up, and find me there. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've been a computer geek for quite a while. I was on the 5 person team that invented and programmed the NavSat system that is known today as GPS. I've always enjoyed wrestling with and solving software problems, so a Windows Mobile OS comes as a built-in challenge - beats a crossword puzzle any day! I am a big fan of HTC devices and find them to be well designed, but often released to the user long before they are ready for "prime time". I guess we shouldn't trash HTC for using us as beta testers, Bill Gates became a billionaire doing the same thing with Windows Operating Systems for PCs. When HTC devices are working right, they are hard to beat. It took the iPhone three tries to do what I could do with my HTC-8125 ... that was 4 phones ago! My biggest complaint with HTC is poor tech support. That's how I found this Wiki. If not for this, I would have switched to a different brand after my first HTC phone. I find the HTC/WM interfaces to be clunky and pretty frustrating. I discovered Spb Software House several years ago and have been using their Mobile Shell since Ver. 1.6. Now using Version 3.5 on my Tilt and getting ready to switch from 3.0 to 3.5 on my Fuze. I have used Spb Pocket + but find that Mobile Shell does everything I need on my devices. Creating custom screens with the widgets you use the most is easy and makes the device much more user friendly. The rotating carousel is like the old HTC Cube on steroids. The Mobile Shell interface is what TouchFlo3D would be if it was much cooler and easier to customize. Screen shots from Mobile Shell 3.5: I just upgraded from Mobile Shell 3.0.1 to Version 3.5. The above screens haven't changed much, but 3.5 has cured a number of bugs that were annoying in 3.0 and 3.0.1. They haven't fixed all the bugs yet, but this interface blows TouchFLO 3D out of the water. I highly recommend it !!! I found and started using Kaiser Tweaks right after I got my Tilt. It really saved the day. I have been using Advanced Config. 3.3 for several months on my Tilt and Fuze and find it to be even better. I finally put up a page on AC3.3 since so many people needed the same info. on how to download/ install and use it. Hats off to Julian Schapman ("Schaps") author of AC3.3 !!! If you use and love AC3.3, send Julian a contribution to keep him developing software like this. You can find his AC3.3 contact info on the Advanced Configuration page on this Wiki. I started using PDAs with the Palm IIIxe (black and white screen) and have been using PDA devices ever since. PPCs allowed me to stop carrying a PDA and a cell phone. When copiers, scanners, printers and fax machines were all separate devices, I predicted one day they would be all in one. Funny, HP actually calls their devices by that name. I now predict that in a few years the Pocket PC will replace the laptop/notebook computer. They will have enough computing power that you will connect via Bluetooth (or something faster) to your full size keyboard and monitor via a wireless docking station. HTC already has the Shift, an oversized version of the above, but it's not a phone. The only downside - if you lose it or break it, you better be backed up somewhere! Devices I own or have owned: HTC - HD2 (aka Leo) HTC - Tilt2 (aka Touch Pro2) HTC - Fuze (Touch Pro) AT&T - Tilt (Kaiser or TyTn II) HTC - 8525 (Hermes) HTC - 8125 Palm Treo 600 All kinds of Nextel junk - had to have them for work Palm IIIc Palm IIIxe Since I switched to the HD-2 I have been using the HTC Sense Interface rather than Spb Mobile Shell. HTC has finally gotten to the point that their UI is as good or better than third party stuff. My next phone is the Aria - just to delve into Android to get a feel for how that stacks up. I'm still looking forward to Windows Phone 7 SAY HELLO! Leave me a comment below, or send me a private message or compliment!
