phone functions- YUK
I have HTC Hero -sprint; The screen response is very slow for phone functions. when switching calls or dialing and picking up. It takes 2-5 seconds for the screen to show what happened. I think it does not work and then try redial. Very frustrating.
Looking up numbers to dial is KLUNKY. And the one thing that would be SO great- Voice Dial. JUST sucks sucks sucks.

Adding a New Contact from Incoming Call
This must be easy to do, but I haven't worked out how to do it yet, and it doesn't appear to be in the manual.
On most (smart)phones, when looking back at call history, you can add a new contact from the list of calls by highlighting the new number, and bringing up a menu which allows you to add a new contact's details.
Can anyone tell me how to do this on the HTC Hero smartphone?
It should be easy, it should be intuitive, but the only option I seem to get is to add the number to an existing contact. Is this the only option (ie do I have to set up the contact's details, and then add the number from the call history), or is there more flexibility (ie add a new contacts details from a menu accessed via the new number in the call history)?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Rod

Nexus One vs Hero
After looking at the Nexus One I understand why we aren't getting Android 2.0.1 for the Hero!
The Nexus One is a Hero on steroids! Android 2.0.1 steroids that is! The upgrade for Hero will probibally be delayed even more because of HTC and Google playing favorites, Sprint Hero customers got a firmware upgrade that took care of some issues and is promised an Android 2.0.1 upgrade soon. T-Mobile got the Nexus One with Android 2.0.1 . What about the other HTC/Google customers? I have nTelos as a carrier and no upgrades or firmware in the works for Hero. Maybe Ill ditch Hero and go with an Iphone ,and have a $500.00 Hero paper weight!

Integrating Contact Birthdays with Calendar
This is more a suggestion, but would love to here if anyone else has the same request. I used to have a Windows Mobile based PDA and one of my favorite features was the integration between the contacts Birthday information and the calendar. I would love to see the same level of integration from the People app to the Calendar app for both manually entered birthdays and facebook downloaded birthdays. Going to the People App and looking in the Events button is too active, having an event on my calendar remind me automatically is much preferred.
Any one else share this opinion?

Google Voice
Since the Voice Dial app built into the HTC Hero is useless, I have tried to download and install Google Voice using a "non-Google" number so as to be able to make Voice Dial calls. I am not able to get this t o function. Can somebody provide me with explicit instructions and settings for doing this? I would be forever grateful. PLEASE HELP!
Thanks, emperorsonny

Messages widget!!
The Messages widget is great! However I do not use the default messaging app and have resorted to Handcent.. When clicking on a message it gives me an option to open it up with Messages or Handcent SMS. I choose handcent. BUT at the bottom of the widget the 'list and compose' buttons always take me directly to the default messaging app... is there a way to change this or could this be fixed in an update to where it will direct the user to the desired SMS program....
That is all Thanks Will

HTC HERO vs. Palm Treo - Business vs. Casual - Outlook - Hardware keyb
I'm taking the time to do this because I want HTC to make the RIGHT device, as well as save other people the time and frustration I have experienced.
First and foremost I am a business user. I need a device to perform basic functions FAST, with no lag time, no waiting and no sliding through software menus or fumbling around with a software keyboard. I need complete Outlook synchronization.
I have been using a Treo since the Treo 300 flip phone days. And I have tried many, many other smartphones.
I just tried the Samsung Moment and now the HTC HERO. The problem is that these devices do not allow a business user the speed and ease of use of "legacy" devices. Such as hardware buttons to INSTANTLY and PAINLESSLY access CALENDAR, TEXT MESSAGING, PHONE, etc. And neither device syncs directly and completely with Outlook.
I have been DYING to upgrade for years. But newer devices SLOW ME DOWN 3x, 4x, 10x over my Treo. With basic operations, such as looking up a contact or quickly sending a text message to somebody. Palm (not the PRE, however) makes it, comparatively, blindingly easy and fast: to send a text message you hit the text button, type the first initial and last initial etc. until your contact appears and start typing! Android/HTC make you type the entire name out... yikes.
Please make a device that is geared for business power users. An easy and quick to use hardware keyboard. Complete sync with MS Outlook. Hardware buttons for the most important and frequent tasks. Android OS (Pocket PC is terrible).
The G1/G2 is the closest yet but even it fails with Outlook synchronization.
As for now I am forced to return to my "antique" Treo 755p to quickly and easily perform my daily tasks :((

Downloading &/or viewing attachments on HTC HERO using Gmail app
For the most part, I can't view or download any attachment coming to my Gmail account on my HTC Hero. When I select "preview," the phone says it's working on getting me a view, but it never does. Any suggestions on what I should do?

HTC Kernel Source - CDMA
Please provide the link to the source for the kernel on the Sprint Hero.
This is not on http://developer.htc.com - that one is for GSM. GNU license requires that HTC provide this when they provide the binary (or upon request), and I'm officially requesting that they give me the source for the binary on my phone.
