Time keeps changing one hour ahead !!! HTC HD2
Jan 19 2010, 10:11 AM EST | Post edited: Jan 19 2010, 10:11 AM EST
First, take into account that I live in Dominican Republic, where the time zone is: "(GMT-04:00) Georgetown, La Paz, San Juan" and does not use Daylight Saving Time. Now, here is a list of the things i've tried, in order to fix this issue:

1) I touched the main clock located in the home tab that takes me to the time settings of the HTC Sence. Here I can change the time and date manually. The time zone is set to GMT-4 Santiago and appears in gray, which means that I'm not able to change it. I ignore the time zone and change the time manually. After a couple of weather updates, the time adds up one hour again by itself!

2) I went to the settings tab. Then, touched the "menu" soft key at the bottom/right and made the only selection available: "all settings". I went into "Clock & Alarms", were, like in the HTC Sense settings, it lets me to change the time and date. The big difference in this settings is that it actually lets me change the time zone, WHICH I I DID! But AGAIN, once the weather updates several times, the time changes by one hour ahead and this time also changed the time zone back to: GMT-4 SANTIAGO.

3) I called HTC support but it was a great waste of time!!! After one hour of talking, the guy got to the conclusion that my phone's carrier is the cause of my issue... This might be correct, but EVERY phone in the world has the option to turn on/off the time synchronization. That lead me to my next step...

4) Looking for the "Time Sync", that I was SURE it had, I went to the settings tab. I touched the "menu" soft key and went to "All Settings". Then, I touched the "Personal" icon and then, the "Phone" one. There, I went into the "GSM/UMTS SERVICES" tab, were I saw a list of settings tht had to do with my phone's carrier. I went into the "Time Synchronization" settings and unchecked the "Automatic change time zone and clock"... I thought this would do it, but, again, after a couple of weather updates... the time changed to one more hour!!!

5) I downloaded and intalled the Microsoft update called "WindowsMobile-KB975353.cab", which has to do with the dates that the Daylight Saving Time (DST) or Summer Time starts and ends, depending on were you're at. Then, I realized thhat my problem is not when the DST starts or ends. I DONT EVEN HAVE DST IN MY TIME ZONE!!! SO I DONT CARE WHEN IT STARTS OR ENDS!!!

6) Here I am, trying to get listened by one of you guys! I REALLY NEED HELP!!! This small issue is turning my head upside down..!

GIVING AN ANTICIPATED THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!

I copied the below from a different thread. It is not exactly your problem, but....it resolved my problem of summer time appt being off by one hour (which for some reason just started recently). The newest patch I applied was kb975353- which you have already applied. I have the HTC Fuze. Good Luck.

" i was having this problem too...if you apply the patch, and then change your time zone to some other radom zone...save it, then change it back to the zone you want it to be....reboot the device and sync...you will be good to go. the next problem is that it will not adjust your appointments in mobile outlook...need a fix for that really bad!!!!!!!!!"

nop... still with my problem! BUT!!! I found a way, I turned off the automatic update in the weather settings and the time and time zone stays as I set it... but now, I can't have the weather be updated automatically, which is a really nice feature... I think that the problem is that the time zone that the weather's data base, were the phone downloads the weather status from internet, has for Santo Domingo the wrong time zone (-4 SANTIAGO) istead of (-4 GEORGETOWN, LA PAZ) So, when the phone downloads the weather condition for its location, it automatically changes the time and time zone that it gets from the weather's data base. If that data base has an incorrect time zone for your location the phone will still update the time zone to the one of data base. So, when the weather changes my time zone "-4 GEORGETOWN, LA PAZ" (which doesn't use dst) to "-4 SANTIAGO" (which uses dst) the time goes ahead one our..!

HELP!!!

This is how I fixed time problem with HD2, go to start>settings>Menu on bottom right of screen>All settings>Personal>Phone>gsm/umts settings tab on bottom of screen>select time synchronization and press get settings>uncheck the box automatic change time zone and clock, set up your timezone like normal and it should stay current time without jumping ahead an hour when weather does its update...Good luck 11  out of 12 found this valuable. This is how I fixed mine. just tap on the time on your home screen...then add city....write the name of your city or the one cloest to you in the phone's database...then just select that city instead of my location. let me know if that works. 0  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

that's what i've been doing... but having it in "my location" is a really nice function because it actually knows exactly were you are automarically and updates the weather according to were the phone is...

Nice! atleast I can see that microsoft is actually fixing the time zones in latin america... if you read read carefully the chart that appears in the link you provided, you can see all the time zones that are fixed by instlling this update.... In your case, Argentina is listed in the chart... Unfortuntely, Dominican Republic was not taken in account for this update... I guess it would be a good idea to report this to microsoft, not to HTC... thanks anyway, you helped me make a step closer to my soluton!!!

I had this same problem. I have a Touch Pro 2 with WM 6.5, but am having the same problem. I thought at first it was a cell tower issue. I called US Cellular and asked. They said it was a known problem with this phone. They had me go into Settings-All Settings-Personal-Phone-CDMA services-Time Synchronization and click "get settings" Then uncheck the "Time Synchronize with mobile network automatically". Then I went and manually changed my time zone (on that same screen click "Clock&Alarm"). It stayed on that correct time zone.

BUT then I did some searching online and someone had said they manually updated "QuickGPS", then updated the weather tab and everything went back to normal. I noticed that I only had 4 hours left on QuickGPS. So I updated it and then updated my weather and everything went back to normal. I turned back on the network synchronization and everything still stayed in the correct time zone. So, maybe it's an issue with QuickGPS when it gets close to the end of it's time before it expires. Just a thought.

What I originally suggested didn't work. Well, it worked for a little bit, but as others have suggested, as soon as it updated the weather, it changed back to the bad time zone.

I have turned off the automatic weather updates and this has worked, for at least 48 hours. I still have it connect to the network for time synchronization too.

It worked for me, you just need to install "weather city editor" witch lets you change the time zone of any city. The only strange thing is that when you change it, it works when you add a city and not when its on my location. In my case, I edited the time zone of Santo Domingo, and when I added Santo Domingo in the world clock, no matter how many time I updated the weather, it stays with the correct time... but, like I said, this will not work in "my location".

I was able to fix mine by going to Settings -> Menu -> All Settings -> Clocks & Alarms and changing timezone to GMT Coordinated Universal Time and setting the time to current GMT time and clicking ok. I then shutdown and restarted my phone and the phone autodetected my current timezone as Eastern Time and set the time correctly upon restart. Make sure you pick Coordinated and not GMT London time. 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

It could be a problem from Flash. I believe the some weather apps are flash animated

I believe the phone's internal clock has to be set to the correct GMT UTC timezone and then everything else works. Then the weather can adjust for the correct timezone offset for your location. Once I fixed mine, my location and all other defined cities times were correct and have stayed that way ever since. So, I always get the correct time from the network. See my earlier post on how I set it. Do you find this valuable?

My manifestation of this issue is that my Touch Pro 2 should stay on Eastern time, but is switching to Central. It does so only at some point in time after midnight. I tried the QuickGPS update, but that did not do it. I played with the time setting for a bit and was able to consistently see the issue occur. What appears to be happening is that when the phone is either reset or turned off then back on, it gets the time zone and time information from the cell site maintenance channel the way non-smart phones do. This time zone data is correct. However at some time after midnight each night, this information is updated not through the cell site, but some repository accessed through the Data Network. When I toyed with the problem, I can see the arrows light up over the signal strength icon telling me that the Data Network is operating flipping the time zone. I then confirm what I was seeing by deleting the Data Network by going through the Connections icon and selecting the Connections icon below that, then selecting the link Manage Existing Connections. Tap and hold on the data network connection (for me, it's Verizon Wireless #777) and select delete from the popup menu. With no access to the Data Network, the time zone did not flip. Note that just switching off the Data Network did not work as it turn itself back on. Not to worry about deleting the Data Network; it comes right back after the phone is turned off/turned on or reset. I did this and switched on the Data Network. I then toyed with the time setting again to fake it out like I did before to see if the issue came back. I saw the arrows glow telling me that the Data Network is being accessed, but this time, time zone did not flip. It stayed on Eastern time. I don't know if deleting the Data Network and restoring it caused the issue to go away; I can't image how. You may want to try this. I will know by tomorrow morning at the latest if the issue did resolve this way. Do you find this valuable?

The deleting and reinitializing of the Data Network did not work. I found that switching between Home and Visitor clock setting was a consistent way to see the issue happen. I am convinced that the issue is with HTC localization service. Either turning the service off or disabling the Data Network stops the issue. Now, I understand that the localization service is provided by Google which surprises me that it would be so non robust. The question is then: How does it localize? How does the service know where it thinks this phone is? I seen some other forums on the web where the thought is that the IP address provides that information. I never heard of that IP addresses contained any geographical information. My brother is an IT expert. I'll ask him. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?
