Looking at links these programs are demos for 20 contact test only. Neither mentions the key words "sync" or calendar. So these are backup or transfer programs for occasional use. Not what we need.

Any way to transfer the contacts that does not rely on GMAIL or any other web based email account? Also, has anyone been successful syncing to an Exchange Server from an Android phone?

I was able to transfer my contacts and calendar. Originally, I had a windows-based phone synced to MS Outlook. Today, I have an android-based phone synced to MS Outlook and Gmail.Basically, I synced Outlook to Gmail with the Google Apps Sync. Then I synced my Gmail with my android phone. The problem is these are all kludges. Microsoft has dropped the ball on supporting activesync / mobile center going forward. Just got an iPad2 as a gift. Called up Apple & in a flash the pad & Outlook are syncing beautifully. iCloud coming soon My phone contract is up. Looks like my next phone will be an iPhone 5 so I can tether the iPad and keep all synced together. BTW, until now I was planning to go Android unless Microsoft got back on track.

"I have used exclusively WM phones since my first smartphone some six years ago. hTC has keen by far my favorite. When the Arrive was announced, I was totally unimpressed. I got one only when MS started giving them away on the outside chance my first impression was wrong. That was not the case so I will be returning this phone soon. Why is it that 90% of the flexibility I had with my tp2 is gone in wp7? I have to be tethered to a computer running Zune like an iPhone user depends on iTunes. Ms went in the wrong direction with wp7, my next phone will either be my old phone or an Android. Do you find this valuable? |

"Any way to transfer the contacts that does not rely on GMAIL or any other web based email account? Also, has anyone been successful syncing to an Exchange Server from an Android phone?"I synced the old Windows Mobile phone to a PC, then synced the PC to the Android phone (Evo 4G) using CompanionLink, a very inexpensive software available on the web. I also sync to a second PC. Do you find this valuable? |

HTC actually recommended Companion Link over their own software. Companion Link was $40, now $50 for syncing with 1 computer. They wanted $140 for multiple syncing. Transferring contacts is a one time thing. Syncing to me means keeping the contacts and calendar coordinated between the phone and multiple computers. Many of us are more comfortable with a cable attachment (tether) for security purposes. Corporate restrictions may interfere with any syncing method. As the cloud matures - The database will be in the cloud, hopefully secure, and then synced or edited with or from any number of authorized feeds, ie computers or phones. Do you find this valuable? |

I wish that I had known this when I made the switch in January. Without that information, what occurred was that everything under "notes" on my previous HTC, a 6900 Touch phone, was either missing or only partly transferred. For instance, the contact information where my Microsoft Office 2007 purchase was stored left out the 16 digit number that was the most important part.Oh well -- live and learn. "Any way to transfer the contacts that does not rely on GMAIL or any other web based email account? Also, has anyone been successful syncing to an Exchange Server from an Android phone?"CompanionLink advertises that they can also sync a phone with an Exchange Server. Check that out. You can email their customer support and they are good at answering questions. Note that CompanionLink establishes its own database (DejaOffice) in the Android phone. It has and syncs fields that Outlook has but Google does not. So, you are free from maintaining your contacts in the Google cloud. Do you find this valuable? |
